![]() Elantris once stood as the symbol of all that is beautiful. Personally I prefer stories where I can easily engage and don't miss the whole story if I space out for a minute. It is a complicated story set in another world with a bunch of its own rules and while that is awesome sometimes it depends on what you want with your escapism. ![]() I know everyone recommends things like Mistborn but for new readers and even experienced ones like me that isn't something I can listen to while doing other stuff easily. I think Fred will engage you because it has likeable characters, the story is relatable (it isn't a grand quest to save the world), and it isn't a series of plot threads you have to track. I already owned the audiobooks for Fred before the graphic audio became available but man it takes the story to a new level. It is exactly what you describe you are looking for: engaging/easy to listen to, a fantastic escape that helped me with my anxiety, and perfect for someone just getting into the genre. I highly recommend Fred the Vampire Accountant by Drew Hayes in graphic audio, it is on Hoopla too so you can get it through your library.
